Najam Sethi invites Nawaz, Imran to watch PSL final together

PSL chairman urges cricket lovers to start a trend on social media to pressurise both politicians to attend event

Pakistan Super League (PSL) chairman Najam Sethi on Monday invited Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his political foe Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan to watch the final match of the tournament on February 23 in Dubai.

“I invite Patron PCB Nawaz Sharif and WC winning captain Imran Khan to PSL Final on February 23. Gentlemen, put politics aside and watch cricket!” Sethi said on Twitter.

The PSL chairman urged the social media community and “PSL lovers” to start a trend on the microblogging website in a bid to build pressure on both the politicians to attend the upcoming event.

With 69 local and 29 foreign stars, the five-team, 24-match league started off on February 4 in the United Arab Emirates as its matches are being played at two UAE stadiums in Sharjah and Dubai.

The teams were sold for a total of $93 million to ARY media group (Karachi Kings), Qatar Oil (Lahore Qalandars), UAE Capital Venture (Islamabad United), Haier (Peshawar Zalmi) and Omar Associates (Quetta Gladiators) for 10 years, with $200,000 salaries for top-tier players and relatively handsome pays for mid-tier and emerging talent as well. The winning side, meanwhile, will bring home $1 million.

PSL updates

With the legendary Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja as brand ambassadors, the PSL is being touted as Pakistan’s much needed opportunity to resurface on the international cricket scene in the limited overs.

Abbassin | 8 years ago | Reply A wonderful and welcome initiative from Mr. Sethi-I would go one step further and ask him to invite other former legends of Pakistan cricket as well. It would be quite a site to see all of them under one roof with great Imran Khan, and another legend, Sir Vivian Richard.

It appeared Wahab was assigned the task of embarrassing the country and the Game. PCB is dead and mum on this unwarranted happening. This looked like a stage managed scenario.

Shan | 8 years ago | Reply I think Najam Sethi forgot to invite ex-PCB patron Mr. Asif Zardari who is already in or around Dubai. Few other cricket lovers who should be invited keeping their politics apart, without whom the VIP lounge would remain deserted. Not inviting such cricket fans, who always support cricket and patronise cricket in their respective areas, would be indeed an injustice to cricket and cricket lovers. Who can deny the patronising and supporting of cricket by Fazalur Rehman, Asfand Yar Wali, Farooq Sattar, Altaf Hussain, Shahbaz Shareef, Ishaq Dar, Yousaf Gilani, Raza Rabbani, Iftikhar Chaudhary and great cricket supporter Mehmood Achakzai (this list is not complete but atleast those who came a long way for cricket and have sacrificed for cricket should be part of this invitation). :)
