Murky affair: Man ‘poisoned by in-laws’ dies

Police have recovered the ‘stolen’ jewellery from Pathan Bibi and returned it to her in-laws

A man who was poisoned allegedly by his in-laws on Saturday died at Bahawal Victoria Hospital on Sunday. His killers have also allegedly abducted his sister. Police said they had recorded his statement before he died and have registered a murder and a kidnap case.


Abrar Ahmed had married Pathani Bibi, a resident of Haroonabad, last week. In her statement to the police, Ahmed’s sister Nasreen Bibi said after the valima, Ahmed, their sister Tasleem Bibi and Pathani Bibi went to visit her parents at their house in Haroonabad. She said that Ahmed was served food laced with some toxic material and her sister was abducted. She said five tola gold jewellery and Rs300,000 was missing from their house.


She said suspected that Pathani Bibi had stolen it. Haroonabad City SHO Azhar Hussain told The Express Tribune that they had recorded Ahmed’s statement. He had accused his sister-in-law and her husband of poisoning him.  Police have recovered the ‘stolen’ jewellery from Pathan Bibi and returned it to her in-laws. Hussain said that they had taken Pathani Bibi to a women’s shelter. He said Pathani Bibi had claimed that Ahmed was an addict and that was the reason she had left his house.
