KARACHI:

Non-governmental organisations seem to be far more interested in beautifying these spaces than the government. Founding member of non-profit Abdoz Arts, Humble Tariq, told The Express Tribune that they had painted a flyover on Abul Hassan Isphani Road, after getting a No-Objection Certificate from the government. However, he said, the flyover was later whitewashed and different ads re-emerged on it. According to him, the government has never approached his team to beautify the city’s flyovers.

Members of the Phool Patti team, as part of ‘I am Karachi’, have recently painted the Karsaz flyover on Sharae Faisal. One of the founding members of ‘I am Karachi’, Rumana Hassan, told The Express Tribune that it never came to her knowledge that the government ever contacted them to paint the city’s flyovers. However, she pointed out, the Karsaz flyover was painted on the behest of former commissioner, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui
