SHABQADAR: Mahmood Aslam and Abdul Amir Khattak took charge as Mohmand and Bajaur political agents (PA) respectively on Thursday. Several new appointments have been made while former PAs reported to Gilgit-Baltistan government for their next assignations.

After taking charge, Aslam, in a meeting of Mohmand Press Club members at their offices in Ghallanai, said the media has a vital role to play in the restoration of peace and reconstruction of the agency.

He said journalists should point out local issues prevalent in Mohmand and highlight steps taken for progress. Aslam also said Fata suffered tremendously due to insurgencies in the past.

Bidding adieu

Before leaving their positions and duties, former Mohmand Agency PA Waqar Ali Khan and former Bajaur Agency PA Akhunzada Mohammad Yahya were given farewell parties by the respective tribes. During the gatherings, people paid tribute to them for their services. They hoped the new administration will continue to work for prosperity in the regions.

The appointment of new PAs in Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram and Bajaur agencies coincided with former governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed’s resignation.

After his removal from office, questions have emerged regarding whether or not Mehtab will remain part of FATA Reforms Committee.

K-P has yet to appoint a new governor, rumours have it one from a military background will emerge.

Earlier, FATA Reform Committee visited Mohmand, Bajaur and North Waziristan agencies and visits to Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai and South Wazirstan agencies have been scheduled for later.
