Promoting culture: Meeradabi competition held in Mardan

PESHAWAR: Lasoona Welfare Organization (LWO) in collaboration with the K-P culture department held a meeradabi competition in Mardan. Meeradabi is a traditional game played with eight players from each team. According to a handout issued on Wednesday, the competition took place between players of Qasim Kali and Ahmadabad villages under the Regional Cultural Heritage (RICH) project to promote local sports and culture. The players of Qasim Kali village won the match. “Watching today’s meeradabi match reminded me of my youth,” the handout quoted Asif Ahmad, an elder of the village as saying, and added, “The young generation should try to revive this beautiful game.” According to the document, locals also demanded Pashto return of musical concerts, poetry sessions and a number of other events to engage people in their customs and traditions.
