Councillors walked out of the city district council session on Wednesday in protest against the alleged thrashing of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf district councillor by an influential resident of Sheikhan union council. The city district council met with Qasim Ali Shah in the chair. Nazim Muhammad Asim also attended the proceedings.
The district assembly members staged a walkout in favour of Fazlullah, who was allegedly beaten up for installing an electricity transformer in the UC.

Earlier, while speaking during the session, Fazlullah said, “Today I am ashamed to be a part of this system and a PTI member. No FIR has been registered against the accused.” He added, “I took an oath to help my people but after the incident, I feel helpless.”
Council member Rehman Fazal also presented a resolution against encroachment on the road from Banamarhi Chowk to Dabgari, which was unanimously adopted by the council. Fazal told the council Rs65 million was allocated for the construction of the road but some individuals opposed the construction as their properties fell within its limits. However, he said if the construction was not started by June 2016, funds allocated for the project would lapse.
Showing respect for Jan
The councillors condemned the murder of Haji Haleem Jan who was shot by an unidentified assailant in Qissa Khwani Bazaar on February 9. While criticising the role of the police, ANP’s Sartaj Khan demanded a transparent enquiry in Jan’s and Sajjad Bangash’s cases. Bangash is a council member who said he was beaten up by Peshawar CCPO Mubarak Zeb and DC Riaz Mehsud.
Sartaj condemned PTI chairperson Imran Khan’s statement to register an FIR against Amir Muqam for supporting the doctors’ community in their protest.
