U21 snooker: Saqib emerges victorious in nervy final

As finalists, both players booked their place in Asian U21 Championship squad

Gujranwala’s Muhammad Saqib clinched the U21 Junior National Snooker Championship as he defeated Haris Tahir 6-5 in a thrilling match on Wednesday.


In a see-saw encounter which saw Tahir lose by scores of 56-29, 76-19, 43-88, 51-36, 39-71, 71-20, 29-62, 76-36, 24-113, 19-68, 26-67 it was 18-year-old Saqib who showed true resilience when he staged a comeback from 5-3 down to bag the last three frames on the trot to seal the win.

“It was a great match,” Saqib told The Express Tribune. “I’m happy that I managed to win, Tahir brought his top game, but by the end of the match, I kept telling myself that I need to win the last three frames.” As finalists, both Tahir and Saqib booked their place in the Asian U21 Championship squad.
