“Game of Thrones is actually more reality than fantasy,” said Dinklage, in a statement made to HBO. “Maybe I’m biased but sometimes, I see people of my size and how they are represented in fantasies — it’s always very comical,” he added. Dinklage went on to say that he felt there was some “code book” that was being followed when shooting fantasies. “But with our show, that line is very unclear.”

Despite this, the 46-year-old has managed to connect with viewers amid all the blood and gore Game of Thrones is known for. He has made them laugh with his silver-tongued wit, bawl their eyes out when Tyrion was wrongly accused of murder, cheer when Tyrion delivered a spirited eulogy for his estranged father and cherish the friendship he fostered with Bronn during his travels on the show.
Dinklage also shared he will always be partial towards Game of Thrones for it gave him a once-in-a-lifetime role and propelled him to international stardom, an Emmy and even a Golden Globe Award. “A lot of these characters, they come and go,” he said when asked what he enjoyed most about playing a Lannister. “But the Lannisters though – they are survivors!”
