KARACHI:

Seven students were injured on Monday during a clash between student political parties at the NED University of Engineering and Technology.

Four of the students belonged to All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO) and three to the Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT), confirmed both the students organisations. The clash occurred near the canteen located at the mechanical department of the varsity.

“They [APMSO members] attacked the book fair organised by IJT two weeks ago,” claimed Afnan Ahmed, one of the students who belongs to IJT. “Today, they again passed comments on us.” The war of words between the two groups led to the clash, he said, adding that students from both the parties were injured.

IJT retaliated this time as there was a clash two weeks ago in which APMSO attacked them, said one of the university’s students, requesting anonymity. He further added that the two parties have been quarreling and having fights on daily basis. “Rangers have taken them into custody,” said NED vice-chancellor secretariat spokesperson Muhammad Anis while speaking to The Express Tribune.

The reason behind the clash has yet to be ascertained, he claimed. The students of both parties were standing near the canteen and then suddenly started fighting using sticks, he added.
