Skiing: Jamil, Irshad bag silver, bronze in South Korea

Last year, skiers Jumma Mir and Muhammad Mumtaz brought home a gold and a silver medal respectively

Pakistan teenagers Muhammad Jamil and Muhammad Irshad won silver and bronze medals respectively at the World Dream Programme in South Korea on Saturday.


The athletes belong to the Naltar Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan and were competing from among 174 skiers from 44 countries in Gangwon-do Province.


Coach Qamar Ali said Jamil and Irshad were also named this year’s best skiers by the organisers.


According to a statement from the Ski Federation of Pakistan, Indian athletes took gold medals in the events in which Jamil and Irshad took part.


The three-week programme invites junior skiers from various countries to South Korea where international coaches train the participants with basic knowledge and techniques.


Last year, skiers Jumma Mir and Muhammad Mumtaz brought home a gold and a silver medal respectively.
