ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Cuba to Pakistan Gabriel Tiel Capote on Saturday said that the two countries will continue to cooperate in the education sector.

The ambassador, during his visit to the Higher Education Commission, said the main purpose of this visit was to strengthen academic bonds with Pakistan. He further said that both the countries will work to address education challenges faced by Pakistan by stressing on the need for bilateral collaboration in various fields.

Sharing academic achievements made by Cuba, the Ambassador said that the University of Havana is a national heritage, being a 290 years old institution. He invited Chairman HEC to attend the 10th International Congress of Higher Education in February 2016, which will be attended by over 3000 people.



HEC Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad also briefed Tiel about the status of Pakistani medical students who have graduated from Cuba. He mentioned that 354 students have passed the test conducted by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council so far and are serving the country in public as well as private sector.

Ahmed lauded Cuba for its generous support to Pakistan in the devastating earthquake of 2005, which also included provision of 1000 scholarships to Pakistani medical students. He also reaffirmed that Pakistan will soon offer 100 scholarships for Cuban engineering students.
