Swabi dispute resolution council (DRC) has urged the government to rename University of Swabi and Aman Chowk of Swabi in memory of Dr Syed Hamid Hussain, a chemistry teacher who lost his life in the January 20 attack on Bacha Khan University (BKU), Charsadda.
This was decided at a meeting held at Kalu Khan police station to pay tribute to the victims of the attack on the varsity. The DRC was chaired by the district chairman of Masalahti Committee Haji Mumtaz Khan Turlandi. During the moot, DRC members decided to appoint Hussain’s wife permanently as a teacher in the Government Girls Degree College Swabi. All those in attendance paid tribute to the slain lecturer, Hamid Husain who had ordered his students to stay inside as Taliban gunmen stormed the university.
