The peace lashkar from Haleemzai tribe planned to demolish 12 houses on the directives of political administration. These houses were evacuated a week ago on a warning issued by the peace lashkar, and residents were shifted to nearby safe houses or had migrated from there, a political administration official told The Express Tribune.
A united front
A jirga of Haleemzai elders was held at Ghallanai, Mohmand Agency on Thursday where the political administration handed over the names of 12 suspected militants and/or their facilitators to the elders. The elders started demolishing their houses under the collective responsibility clause of Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR).
Political administration in a press statement said these suspected militants were involved in IED blasts that cost security personnel their lives. Some of the suspects were said to have attacked levies posts in Haleemzai, in which one levy official died.
It said in the statement the suspected militants were harassing locals, and demanding extortion money from people across the border. “These people have not only killed innocent tribespeople, but also harass and terrorise them,” the statement added.
The decision to destroy the houses was supported by the political administration and security forces, the statement added.
