KARACHI: Senior Education and Parliamentary Affairs Minister in Sindh Nisar Ahmed Khuhro demanded Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar on Thursday to resign from his post, saying the latter failed to show responsibility on the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP).

Khuhro, who is a senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), alleged that the interior minister disappears from the national scene whenever any terror incident occurs. “He should show his medical certificate if he was ill as he keeps vanishing.”

By shutting down schools we are giving in to terrorists: Nisar

The PPP leader raised his concerns over what he said was increasing terrorist activities across the country. “The terrorists have attacked the educational institution [Bacha Khan University] of the same province they attacked the Army Public School in 2014, which clearly reflects the failure of the federal government to implement NAP,” he claimed.

Further, Khuhro advised Chaudhry Nisar to visit Sindh and interact with common people so that he may be aware of the ground realities. “Nisar’s refusal to visit Sindh shows he is shying away from his responsibilities," he said, adding, "This is not Musharraf’s era where he can’t be asked questions. He is accountable to the people.”

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has sought details of Chaudhry Nisar’s presser and is expected to address a press conference in Sukkur later today to respond to the points raised by the federal minister.

The federal interior minister had earlier lashed out at the PPP’s leadership over making critical remarks about the implementation of NAP. “Those who are criticising the National Action Plan and trying to create a situation of fear among the masses are working for terrorists,” Nisar said during a press conference in the federal capital Thursday morning.

“People who are criticising NAP are the ones who kept sleeping during their tenure and did not root out terrorism from the country. Those who did not even read the NAP documents are giving their analysis on it,” he added.

The interior minister had also slammed the PPP’s role regarding alleged corruption charges against the confidante of its co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. “If anyone has anything to say regarding Dr Asim’s case they should contact me instead of spreading rumours regarding NAP,” he said.
