ISLAMABAD: The national carrier has been asked to improve services and maintain punctuality of flight schedules by Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

While chairing a meeting on Thursday, the prime minister asked the management of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to adopt modern management techniques to help improve services. He pointed out that the image of any airline depended largely on the care, courtesy and efficiency of its staff and management. The management can popularise the airline by improving passenger care, said Gilani, adding that the government was aware of the airline’s financial constraints. Earlier, the management gave the PM a detailed briefing on issues concerning the corporation. It also apprised the prime minister about proposals regarding joint ventures with other carriers to enhance business.

The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar, PIA MD Aijaz Haroon, DG CAA and other senior officials.

farooq | 13 years ago | Reply P IA biggest problem is corruption which starts from top to bottom. Unions are core of the problem has the most horrible service compared to Middle Eastern Airlines. Unions are protecting these bad employees and does not care about paying customer that fly them. PIA should be privatized 51% and 49% Government owned in order to see solution or competition. Clean house from Management to employees and set new standards to compete in open market through innovation, service and accountability.
