
Twelve workers fell unconscious while working in Spira Dam area located in Sipah, Bara, Khyber Agency Saturday.
Khyber Agency Political Agent Shahab Ali Shah told the media, 12 labourers were working in a tunnel when they fell unconscious because they inhaled poisonous gas being emitted from a generator. The gas was formed in the generator due to lack of oxygen and extreme fog in the surrounding.
Soon after, a levies person, Rizwan Afridi, reached the site and guided other personnel to rescue the workers. They were rushed to Dogra Hospital and later shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar.
Bara MNA secretary Nasir Khan told the media the workers were identified as Kushar Gul, Tor Gul, Speen Gul, Shakeel, Qaisam Khan, Haji Gul, Shaukat, Imran, Shamsheer, Ali, Amjad and Shakirullah. Nasir confirmed that they were cleaning the tunnel when they fainted.
The political agent compensated each worker with Rs50,000. They were all locals and were later discharged following medical treatment.
