A police spokesperson said Rafiq, a resident of Chak 79-RB, had married Naheed for love some time back without his family’s consent. Police said Rafiq’s family used to often taunt and tease Naheed and she would have frequent altercations with them.
On Wednesday night, she served them food laced with toxic substances, he said. Rafiq, his mother and sister ate the food and soon passed out. Police said Naheed then used an axe to kill her husband. She also tried to kill his sister Fauzia Bibi, 30, and his 80-year-old-mother Amina Bibi but managed only to injure them. The two women were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
The police were informed and took the body into custody and arrested Naheed Bibi.
Akram Nisar, Rafiq’s neighbour, told The Express Tribune the murder had a backdrop of teasing and taunting by Naheed’s in-laws. He said that they had never accepted her as one of the family and Rafiq used to side with his mother and sister, Nisar said.
He said on Wednesday, they had had another altercation which had spiralled out of control.
