QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri has said that Sui had been meeting the energy needs of the country, however, no considerable steps have been taken for the development of Sui town and district of Dera Bugti.

“The people of the district are being deprived of basic necessities. Companies working in the field of minerals like PPL, OGDCL should work for the welfare of the local people.” The chief minister said this while talking to Managing Director of PPL Syed Wamiq Bukhari on Tuesday. Chief Minister was also briefed regarding PPL’s efforts for locating gas reservoirs in the province. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that if companies working in Sui had utilised their profits for the development of the masses of Sui, they would not be in miserable conditions and Sui would have been turned into a model city.

The CM stressed upon the PPL authorities to provide maximum job opportunities to the local people and impart them skills in this regard.

Earlier, the Managing Director, while briefing CM on PPL’s activities, said that further plans have been formulated for tapping gas in Balochistan and PPL has formed groups to meet the task, adding that as many as 4 new wells would be dug in the current year in Sui, which include a well 4000 metres deep so that gas production is increased.

He was of the view that large reservoirs of gas are present in Balochistan and comprehensive studies have been made in this regard to tap the resources.
