We will question the government officers and contractors who are utilising these funds, says nominated mayor

KARACHI: The city government will conduct a third party audit of the local bodies' budget after it is set up in the coming days, said Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) mayoral candidate, Wasim Akhtar, on Tuesday.

We will question the [government] officers and contractors who are utilising these funds about what have they done as well as elected representatives since they cannot even touch local government (LG) budget post December 5, the day of the polls.

Regarding the LG powers controversy, he said if the Sindh government remained reluctant [to devolve power], they will take the matter to court.

He was speaking to the media outside the anti-terrorism court (ATC) where he had come to apply for pre-arrest bail in connection to the 'facilitating and harbouring terrorists' case against Dr Asim Hussain.
