General Raheel stresses the need for opening up communication channels between Saudi Arabia and Iran

Army chief General Raheel Sharif on Monday stressed the need for opening up communication channels between Saudi Arabia and Iran.


According to sources, he said that during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s deputy crown prince and defence minister, Mohammed bin Salman, upon arrival in Riyadh on Monday.

“After arriving in Riyadh, the army chief met the Saudi defence minister,” the Inter Services Public Relations said in a statement.

During the meeting, General Raheel highlighted Pakistan’s perspective on the Middle East situation.

“Due to the situation in Middle East, the Muslim Ummah is weakening,” sources said, quoting the army chief.

Gen Raheel was accompanying Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as they embarked on the first leg of their crucial trip to Saudi Arabia and Iran to discuss options and proposals to prevent further deterioration in ties between the two countries.
