KARACHI:

Over 100 unclaimed and scrap motorcycles lying in the central vehicle pool, commonly known as the nazarat, in the Aziz Bhatti police remits were gutted when a fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire brigade spokesperson said that the fire broke out in the bushes surrounding the nazarat and, due to wind, it spread to an area where a large number of vehicles were parked. "Some of the vehicles were burnt but the majority of the vehicles were saved by the firefighters," he explained.

Aziz Bhatti DSP Nasir Lodhi said that nearly 100 unclaimed motorcycles and two or three buses were gutted in the fire. The centralised vehicles' pool, supervised by the city district management and police, enables citizens to locate their vehicles recovered after being stolen or snatched. DSP Lodhi said that the investigation was underway to ascertain the cause behind the fire, as in the past similar fires have been set to clear the land of bushes.
