KARACHI: Former president Asif Ali Zardari has termed the registration of a case against his bother-in-law Mir Munawwar Talpur “a New Year gift by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif”.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Pakistan Peoples Party Co-chairman thanked the PM for giving him the first gift for 2016, in a sarcastic reference to National Accountability Bureau’s decision to file a reference against the PPP representative Talpur for allegedly accumulating assets beyond his known means of income.

Zardari said that cases were registered against Dr Asim Hussain in 2015 also, but nothing could be proven against him. “Nawaz Sharif has learnt no lessons from the past,” he stated. “Nobody could accomplish their agenda against PPP in the past nor will they be able to get their way now.”

MNA Talpur is the husband of Faryal Talpur – the sister of Zardari.

“We have faced PM Nawaz’s persecution in the past and will also do so today,” the former president said, but the Nawaz-league has failed to learn anything from its mistakes.
