RAWALPINDI:

An anti-narcotics court on Saturday adjourned the ephedrine quota allotment case till January 23.

Two witnesses were present in the court to record their statements but the defence counsel maintained that it was necessary to record statements of all four witnesses in the set the same.

He said either the prosecutor should drop the other two witnesses from the case or they all needed to record testimony the same day. The court accepted the argument and summoned all four witnesses at the next hearing, scheduled on January 23.

Former PML-N MNA Hanif Abbasi, one of the eight accused, was also present in the court on Saturday.

Abbasi was accused of misappropriating 500kg of the controlled chemical ephedrine, obtained in 2010, and allegedly selling it to narcotics smugglers.
