Defeat local rivals by eight wickets to go third in table

Melbourne Stars beat local rivals Melbourne Renegades by eight wickets at the Docklands Stadium in their Big Bash League match on Saturday.

Batting first, the Renegades made 155 runs for the loss of six wickets, with West Indian Dwayne Bravo’s unbeaten 37-ball 59 being the highlight of their innings.

Bravo’s compatriot Chris Gayle only contributed a run-a-ball 21, while Cameron White and Tom Beaton added 29 runs each before all three were dismissed by Marcus Stoinis.

In reply, the Stars lost only two wickets in their successful pursuit of the target, with Kevin Pietersen top scoring with 67 runs off just 43 deliveries. Luke Wright and Peter Handscomb chipped in with 37 and 39 runs respectively.

Stoinis was named the man of the match for his bowling figures of three wickets for just 11 runs.
