Transition: IGP Tahir Alam Khan retires

The capital saw a plunge in crimes during his tenure but most the credit goes to the interior minister

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tahir Alam Khan retired from his post on Friday.


Khan was appointed IGP on September 1, 2014 after the government removed Aftab Ahmed Cheema for refusing to take action against the participants of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek, during the sit-ins held at the capital in 2014. Interior minister has directed Deputy Inspector General DIG (Headquarters) Khalid Khattak, to work as the acting IGP till the appointment of a permanent chief.


A senior official in the ministry of interior, requesting anonymity, said name of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Fakhar Sultan Raja, is being considered for the post however, final decision will be taken by the interior minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.


The capital saw a plunge in crimes during his tenure but most the credit goes to the interior minister who kept the former IGP on his toes checked his performance on a daily basis.
