
This included Rs200 million on medicines, disposable and anaesthetic drugs, disposable materials, and medical gas system in the general wards for admitted patients. Moreover, the hospital management also spent around Rs130 million on free kidney dialysis and medicine for its patients. “Over Rs10 million were spent from Zakat and Baitul Mal.”
The handout stated Rs60 million was spent on disposable items and medicines to all burn and terrorism victims, intensive care unit, coronary care unit and patients from the accident and emergency (A&E). The medicines and disposable items were issued under the special initiative programme of the provincial government.
Patients received
Around two million patients were examined in 2015 in various departments, including the A&E.
An official said 657,835 patients were registered at the A&E department. At least 542,080 others were received and checked at various outpatient departments. Over 14,576 patients visited the physiotherapy department.
The official said 24,117 major surgeries and 629,582 investigative procedures were carried out in various diagnostic sections.
Scans and treatments
According to KTH Public Relations Officer Farhad Khan, 98,468 different procedures were carried out in different sections. These included electroencephalogram also known as EEG, electrocardiogram or ECG, echocardiogram or Echo, endoscopy, lithotripsy to break kidney stones, dental and skin procedures.
Moreover, 73,422 ultrasounds, 15,986 computerised tomography or CT scans and 8,541 MRIs were carried out at the hospital’s radiology department. The statement added 3,188 bags of bloods were also issued for patients.
Afghan nationals and people from tribal areas also seek medical assistance at the hospital. Around 35 different units and 20 major operation theatres offer services at the facility.
