Favouritism in appointments?: MQM submits adjournment motion against Sindh govt

The resolution accuses govt of not recruiting 267 candidates awaiting postings since 2014

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) parliamentarians submitted an adjournment motion against the Sindh government for not recruiting 267 candidates awaiting postings since 2014.

The parliamentarians, headed by MPA Heer Soho, filed the adjournment motion to Sindh Assembly secretary on Wednesday afternoon. Speaking about the motion, Soho told The Express Tribune that the 267 candidates, who had given tests and cleared the interviews by the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), were waiting for their posting.

Soho alleged that the postings are not being carried on merit basis and the people are being appointed on basis of favouritism or by bribing the officials. She said that Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah has yet to sign a summery for the postings of the candidates who are to be appointed in the police department, and questioned as to why the government was not hiring them.

Structural changes: Another reshuffle in MQM

The MQM leader said that if the people are not being appointed on merit, then the SPSC should shut down as there is no need for it. "The government claims that the SPSC is an independent body and its decisions are not influenced by anyone," she said, adding, "But this is the reality that the postings are being made on the recommendations of the ministers."

Meanwhile, MQM has expressed concern over the removal of Karachi commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui. In a press statement, the party's parliamentarian said that in a prejudice move, the Sindh government has removed the last remaining Urdu-speaking official.

The party claimed that the Sindh government was being biased in the city's developmental projects and said that it had no interest in the affairs of the city.
