JI Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch, terms the pontiff's demand "insane"

LAHORE: A large number of protestors joined the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) to protest against Pope Benedict's demand for repealing the blasphemy law, in Lahore on Tuesday.

JI Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch, who led the rally, termed the pontiff's demand “insane and a plot to threaten Pakistan’s Christian minority's security”.

Liaquat Baloch said that the Pope, demanding the release of Aasia Bibi, had been ignorant of the treatment being meted out to Dr Aafia Siddiqui. He also advised Christian leaders and Bishops in Pakistan to disown the Pope’s stance.

Speaking on the rally held in Karachi on Sunday, Baloch said that the party would hold another rally in Lahore on January 30, stating that the protests would continue till the parliamentary committee on the issue was scrapped and the amendment to the bill, tabled by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Sherry Rehman, was dropped.

He also said that Salmaan Taseer’s killer, Mumtaz Qadri, enjoyed the backing of “the entire nation” and the “proud and honourable” lawyers would secure his release.

There are lot of evils in Pakistan Society, perhaps JI can take it upon to eradicate on a grass root level, Protesting against Pope, America, Israel, China or anyone one else outside Pakistan make zero difference. The only thing these kind of protests accomplish is they elevate the importance of those parties. No one gives a damn to these kind of protests. If JI truly want to have an affect, iy should work to make Pakistan strong. The country will never have independence if it constantly relies on IMF, World Bank, America, China, Europe, Japan. If you are not free economically, do you really think you can make any change? If all the beggers of Pakistan unite for their cause do you think any one will take them seriously? The point is, as long as the country remains a begger country, it will have no influence in the community of nations. So, please cut this nonsense and do whatever is needed make it country strong. And please, stop blaming rest of the world. It is time for introspection. Syed Abul Alaa Maududi, never imagined that the people running his party would be so stupid and incompetant. May Allah have Mercy on his soul.

What happened to the rule of law and the right of every citizen to defend themselves in court. Why didn't he file a law suit against Salman Taseer under the blasphemy law and let him face justice. Too many people are being murdered in cold blood because this law is being abused for different reasons. I apologize to my Christian (Ahle-Kitab)and Muslim brothers who have suffered due to the abuse of this law. Sherry Rahman - you are a courageous women. It is better to live for a day with courage than a lifetime as a coward.
