Agriculture sector: Govt approves new policy to benefit farmers

The K-P government has finalised a new agreement regarding the agricultural policy which is meant to prove beneficial for farmers. The policy is still under wraps but will be released soon, officials of the agriculture department said.


A meeting to discuss the new policy was held at a local hotel in Swabi on Sunday, attended by members of the agriculture department, provincial core group for food safety and representatives of Pakistan farmers’ coalition. The initiative was funded
by Oxfam.


Agriculture Chief Planning Officer Ahmad Saeed Khan gave participants a detailed briefing over the newly finalised agricultural policy. He said the provincial cabinet has given its approval for the policy and its contents will be disclosed soon. A few months ago, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced farmers in all the four provinces will receive Rs341 billion in grants, subsidies and loan advances from the Centre.
