LAHORE: The tax amnesty scheme announced by the federal government is in violation of the Constitution, Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq said on Saturday. He said the scheme was also in contradiction of the promises made by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership during its election campaign in 2013. “The Sharifs had promised that they would recover all the wealth looted from the country,” he said. Haq said by facilitating the tax evaders the government was being unfair to those who pay their taxes. He said it was deplorable that the government was facilitating criminals rather than putting them behind bars.
