Terror financing: CTD nabs suspected fund raiser for IS

The accused was arrested during a targeted raid in Orangi Town

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police apprehended a suspect allegedly involved in generating funds for the Islamic State (IS).


The CTD identified the suspect as Aziz Rehman, son of known terrorist Jahan Bengali, affiliated with the Haji Khalil group of the banned terrorist outfit Jundullah. The accused was arrested during a targeted raid in Orangi Town. The suspect is in CTD custody on a 30-day remand. Officials said Rehman has been involved in generating funds for IS, and they will obtain more details after further investigation.

Separately, the Sindh Rangers claimed to have arrested two suspects and recovered weapons from their possession during a targeted raid in Orangi Town. A spokesperson said the suspects belonged to a banned outfit.

Meanwhile, the Federal B Industrial Area police claimed to have apprehended three political workers allegedly involved in target killings and extortion in the city. The suspects, believed to be affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, were identified as Akram, Kashif Qureshi and Rao Imran, according to SHO Naeem Khan. Cases against the suspects have been registered and further investigations are under way, he added.
