KARACHI: Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed has reiterated that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given his selection committee clearance to select Amir for the tour of New Zealand.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Haroon revealed that Amir was almost a certain selection provided his visa issues are sorted.

“We have been given the clearance to select Amir for the New Zealand tour,” said Haroon. “Unfortunately though, we aren’t yet sure about his visa due to the ongoing Christmas and New Year vacations. If the travel arrangements are made in time, we are likely to select him.”

The PCB has sought legal opinion on Amir’s travel arrangements since a convicted person isn’t allowed to travel to New Zealand under normal circumstances, with the board’s lawyers processing relevant documents to ensure that the left-armer gets a visa to square-up against the Black Caps at their home grounds.

Haroon added that Karachi’s left-arm pacer Rumman Raees, who was in consideration for the tour, is out of contention after suffering from a bout of illness. “Rumman is unfortunately down with an infection and will need some time to recuperate,” he said.

The chief selector also revealed that suspended leg-spinner Yasir Shah has admitted to taking a pill — which contained the prohibited substance chlortalidone — to stabilise his blood pressure without informing the team doctor.
