ISTANBUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday blasted a call by a leading Kurdish politician for autonomy for the country's Kurdish minority as "treason."

Turkey says kills 23 in intensifying battle against Kurdish militants

"What the co-leader has done is treason, provocation," Erdogan told reporters at an Istanbul airport before leaving for Saudi Arabia.

Selahattin Demirtas, co-leader of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) said at the weekend that Kurds in Turkey had to decide whether to live in autonomy or "under one man's tyranny".

Erdogan accuses Iran of 'sectarian' policies in Syria

Earlier, Erdogan blasted Russia and Iran as well as the Islamic State and Syrian Kurdish fighters for “massacring innocent people mercilessly” in Syria.

He said groups such as IS and the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) were “instruments of a global power struggle”.

“They are the same as the PKK here. They are no different,” he said, referring to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Anil | 8 years ago | Reply What is the difference between Assad and this Idiot is the fact that while Assad may be fighting for survival of his OWN REGIME IN HIS OWN COUNTRY, This man has blood of Syrians and Kurds and every syrian who is killed in this Non- Sense war is mainly because of this monster and a few othe NATO allies. The rouge nation this man rules with absolutely no respect for Humanity and nothing which resembles Democracy ( called TURKEY or broiler or whatever) interferes and sends and supports terrorists in neighbouring countries and creates a dangerous situation for the world. Also the whole world should sit up and think the logic of their call for Assad to go. If that happens even the U.S will become unstable as this may become a norm. That is it will send a wrong message that if a foreign nation can send in enough terrorists to kill a lot of people in any country that country looses it's sovereignty and Government. Well every country in EU or Americas can become the same if this becomes a norm. Does the Nefarious activities terror organization (NATO) has any checks to reign down one of it's members who is trying deliberately to start a world war-3?
John B | 8 years ago | Reply After fighting ISIS the Kurds want their autonomy and it would be a terrible mistake if the west ignores their demand when the time comes. The Kurds have been let down more than once. The Russians would support the Kurds to keep them in their good books. NATO would be in a fix if they don't recognize Kurds freedom. Kurdistan is coming and the writings are on the wall.
