KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains unsatisfied with the replies and details provided by Danish Kaneria which has resulted in the board refusing clearance to the out-of-favour leg-spinner, according to a PCB official.

Kaneria was dropped from the squad midway through the Test series against England and was overlooked for the series against South Africa and New Zealand. He was also not part of the 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup, an omission that left him demanding an explanation from the PCB through his lawyer Steven Haurigan.

“The board had made it clear to all the players under scrutiny that they would not be cleared until they provide all the documents and details sought by the Integrity Committee,” the official told The Express Tribune.

The committee asked Kaneria to provide the transcript of the investigation against him by the British police, which the leg-spinner has failed to hand-over.

“There’s no use of calling a lawyer because the board will not meet him [Kaneria] until he submits the transcript. The PCB cannot take a risk by clearing him because his refusal to submit the transcript makes things suspicious.”

Kaneria’s lawyer, last week, hinted at taking legal action against the PCB for not clearing his client without giving any valid reason.

Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal were the other two players probed by the committee for their alleged links with bookmakers. Akmal was named in the 30-man squad while Malik was overlooked.

“It is clear and simple: Akmal provided all the sought documents and details while the other two failed.”
