Prophet’s birth celebrations: Eid Miladun Nabi celebrated with religious fervour

Peaceful processions mark the day

RAWALPINDI: Residents of the twin cities celebrated Eid Miladun Nabi with religious fervour on Thursday. The day resonated with calls for living up to Prophet Muhammad’s message of tolerance and peace.

Roads, streets, houses, buildings, shopping malls, and mosques in the city were decorated with colourful buntings, banners and lights.

Government and semi-government buildings and offices were also decorated beautifully.

Main processions were taken out from Eidgah Sharif in Asghar Mall, Sadiqabad, Dhoke Ratta Amraal, and Jamia Mosque Road.

Moreover, numerous other small and big processions were held in the areas of Adiala Road, Dhamial, Gulshanabad, Morgah, Pirwadhai, IJP Road, Commercial Market, Saddar, Murree Road, and Chah Sultan.

Locals set up free food and drink stalls at various locations along the routes of the processions.

Similarly, naat competitions were organised in almost all areas of the city including Murree Road, Sadiqabad, and Adiala Road.

Religious scholars highlighted the significance of the occasion, and asked the people to follow the sunnah of the prophet.

Some 3,500 police personnel were deployed in the city to avoid any untoward incident.

Traffic in the city was directed to alternative routes to facilitate the participants of the processions.

Around 1,300 small and big processions were taken out from different parts of the city, a police department’s daily press release said.

No person was allowed to stand on rooftops along the procession routes.

The participants of the processions had to pass through walk-through gates.

Close circuit cameras were also installed along the routes of the main processions.

Rescue 1122 officials remained on high alert during the day to tackle any untoward incident.
