PESHAWAR: The management of Bab-e-Peshawar flyover project has announced the structure will be inaugurated on January 15, 2016 despite major reservations on the part of citizens.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) Director General (DG) Hasan Saleem Wattoo said the first section of the two-level flyover project had already been completed and the project near Phase III, Hayatabad would be completed in the next month.

“The government allocated Rs1.77 billion for the flyover being constructed on Hayatabad-Jamrud Road and has yet to release all funds,” Wattoo added. According to the PDA DG, the completion of the mega project will take Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa a step closer to the change that has been expected for a long time.

“The traffic problem on Warsak and Pajagi roads has already been resolved since the northern bypass road has been constructed,” he said. “However, around 100,000 vehicles pass each day through Phase III and that issue will soon be addressed when the second phase of the flyover is completed.”

He added, “We introduced a fair mechanism to make the provincial capital clean and green and we will go through with it.”

PDA selects all its employees on basis of merit and Wattoo added Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Minister for Local Government Inayatullah Khan appreciated their work.

The future

Wattoo said PDA has started work on internal roads of Hayatabad and the construction of roads in University Town will commence next week.

“Over the next eight months, Khyber Road will be extended till Gora Qabristan and Aman Square,” he added.

Wattoo informed eight kanals of land had been purchased for the new general bus terminal at GT Road near Sardar Garhi Peshawar. “With the new terminal, the traffic flow will be reduced and loaded trucks for commercial purposes will enter through it only,” he added.

Wattoo said this initiative will materialise within the next three months and they have signed an agreement with National Engineering Services Pakistan in this regard.

He said a monitoring unit for ongoing projects will be set up soon and appealed to the public to submit their feedback.
