Hobart Hurricanes skipper and man of the match Tim Paine scored an unbeaten 87-run knock off 58 balls to guide his team to a comfortable 20-run win over Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League at the Bellerive Oval on Tuesday.

Hobart, who had elected to bat, set a strong 185-run target for the visitors as Paine, supported ably by Kumar Sangakkara (43) and George Bailey (40), smashed six boundaries and four sixes with an impressive strike rate of 150 to take his side to 184 with the loss of three wickets.

Andrew Feteke and Ben Cutting were only able to claim one scalp each.

In reply, Brisbane were tested by in-form Sam Rainbird and Daniel Christian, who combined to take three and two wickets respectively to all but eliminate any hopes for the visitors to chase the target.

Only Jason Floros (42) and Nathan Reardon (41) made any significant contribution to their side’s cause, while opener Jimmy Peirson (29) was the only other batsman to cross the 2-run mark.

Shaun Tait, Clive Rose and Cameron Boyce dismissed one batsman apiece.
