Batsman scores 53 in side’s five-wicket victory over KRL

KARACHI: A half-century by Bilawal Iqbal guided Lahore Blues to a five-wicket win over KRL in the second round of the Super Eight stage of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Chasing 117, Lahore Blues resumed their innings 14-1 and reached 119 in 26.1 overs with the loss of five wickets as Iqbal scored 53 runs off 87 balls, while KRL’s Muhammad Abbas was able to take three wickets, supported by Sadaf Hussain, who dismissed two batsmen.

At the National Stadium of Karachi, NBP’s Akbarur Rehman scored a double century (202) while Kamran Akmal made 92 to help their team reach a first innings total of 457, with a lead of 109 runs, against SSGC.

SSGC’s Zafar Gohar took four wickets while Adnan Ghaus and Sohail Khan claimed three and two wickets respectively.

At the end of play, SSGC had lost nine wickets for 181 runs in their second innings as Ahmed Jamal took four wickets along with Ziaul Haq taking three. Asif Zakir (62) was SSGC’s highest scorer.

In the match between UBL and Karachi Whites, a century by skipper Faisal Iqbal (176) and an unbeaten century by Jahid Ali (151) helped Karachi Whites reach 407-4 in their first innings.

Mir Hamza and Yasim Murtaza took two wickets each for UBL while Jahid and Saud Shakeel (20) were on the crease at stumps, with Karachi trailing by 178 runs to UBL.

At the UBL ground in Karachi, SNGPL resumed their first innings 235-4 and added 75 runs before declaring on 310-9 against Wapda as skipper Misbahul Haq made 64 while Mohammad Hafeez made 57. Zulfiqar Babar took six wickets while Naseer Akram took two.

At the end of play, Wapda, who were in their second innings, were 143-4 with skipper Aamer Sajjad (19) and Adnan Raees (11) on the crease, leading SNGPL by 130 runs.
