Sustainable transport: Experts, policymakers to discuss action plan

A two-day symposium on sustainable transport system in Pakistan will be held in the federal capital on Dec 21 and 22 to share knowledge and generate debate on all aspects of sustainable transport, including climate change, controlling emissions, and management and operations, said a press release.

The symposium in being organised by the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN)as part of the Pakistan Sustainable Transport Project, which is funded by UNDP-Global Environment Facility.

Representatives of federal and provincial governments, national as well as international organisations will address the participants.

It aims to draw-up an action plan to address the growing challenges of transportation in urban centres by creating awareness on the link between transportation policies and climate change.

It also aspires to provide key recommendations towards promoting sustainable transport while coming up with ideas for exploring future financial modalities of the on-going rapid transit projects of the government.
