I wanted to be an astronaut: Sonakshi
Actor on how she landed up in Bollywood and her take on style and fashion
MUMBAI:
Sonakshi Sinha, who started her career as a costume designer, said she wanted to be an astronaut and it was fate that crafted her switch from fashion to cinema.
“Being in fashion designing, I used to sketch well. I thought of becoming an artist also but eventually, I landed up becoming an actor,” she said. “There were a lot of people from different walks of life who inspired me while making a career choice. I was always a courageous girl,” she added.
Bollywood’s ‘Shotgun junior’ shared her sentiments in an interview on Colors Infinity’s show Born Stylish with host and designer Pria Kataaria Puri. “To be honest, I wanted to be an astronaut. My math was so bad though that no institute would have given me admission. I love sports, I like to swim and play tennis so I also thought of becoming a swimmer once,” she shared.

Sonakshi revealed how her transition from fashion to cinema was a quirk of destiny. “Arbaaz (Khan) spotted me at one of the fashion shows and approached me for the movie Dabangg. Although I never wanted to be there, it was an offer I could not say no to,” she said.
On whom she deems as her style icon, Sonakshi names the vivacious Rekha. “She has effortlessly kept her style quotient identical for many years. You can recognise Rekha ji no matter where she is. She is a great style icon,” said the Dabangg actor.
Emphasising the distinction between style and fashion, she explained how the two have nothing to do with each other. “Style is something that is incorporated into you and a part of your personality, just like your attitude or way of talking. And every person has his or her own style.”

A simple dialogue, such as “Thappar se darr nahi lagta sahib, pyaar se lagta hai” from Dabangg, is still popular among cinema buffs. “I had never thought a heroine can get famous for her dialogue but my father’s expertise has clearly rubbed off on me,” said the actor, who is busy shooting for her upcoming films Akira and Force 2.
On the work front, the Lootera star shared 2015 has been quite a busy year. “I was busy doing TV shows this year. I’ve also been traveling a lot and making appearances. Actually, this year has been very busy for me. I have done lots of work professionally and personally as well,” said the former Indian Idol Junior judge. Sonakshi is the daughter of Bollywood actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha and made her film debut in the Salman Khan-starrer Dabangg in 2010.
