HARIPUR: A student of class 10 was severely beaten up by his teacher in Haripur. The thrashing has affected his ability to hear, the police told The Express Tribune on Wednesday. All this occurred over the young boy’s failure to answer his teacher’s question.

A City police officer said, “Syed Farman Shah, son of Syed Amir Shah, is a student of grade 10 at Jinnah School & College.” Requesting anonymity as he was not authorised to talk to the media, he added, “On Tuesday, during a class, his teacher Qari Naveed asked him a question which he could not answer.”

The policeman said, “This infuriated Naveed and he started hitting the student on his head.” He added, “When Farman asked the teacher to stop hitting him, Naveed began slapping and punching him.” According to the policeman Farman said he had difficulty as his eyesight was quite weak to begin with.

The official said, “The beating was so severe, Farman started bleeding from one of his ears, his hearing seems to have been affected.”

He said the student rushed home after the thrashing and told his parents about his ordeal. “They brought Farman to the police station and registered a complaint against the teacher.”

The police official pointed out the victim was sent to District Headquarters Hospital for medical examination but the doctors feared his ear sustained internal damage and referred him to an ENT specialist at Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad.

The medical report had not been finalised by the time this report was filed. An FIR would be registered accordingly.
