Bilateral Ties: Russian ambassador meets governor

The governor said there was great potential for cooperation between Pakistan and Russia in the energy sector

LAHORE: Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Alexy Dedov called on Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana at the Governor’s House on Wednesday. Matters regarding bilateral relations and economic ties were discussed.  The governor said Pakistan was keen to enhance cooperation with Russia. “We should turn our political relations into a strong economic partnership.” The governor said the current bilateral trade of $542 million did not correspond with the potential for trade.” He said Russian companies should be encouraged to utilise the investor-friendly policies of the government for a stronger economic relationship.  The governor said there was great potential for cooperation between Pakistan and Russia in the energy sector.  “The agreement on the North-South Gas Pipeline is a hopeful moment for Pakistan-Russia relations,” he said. He said Russia will extend its cooperation and provide assistance and support in all sectors, especially in the energy sector.
