The “Frontiers of Information Technology” (FIT-2015) conference, aimed at providing opportunity to Information Technology (IT) researchers to share latest breakthroughs in the discipline, concluded in Islamabad on Wednesday, said a press release.

There was a high acceptance rate for technical papers in this year’s FIT, almost equivalent to that of other international conferences, it said.

The hallmark of the three-day symposium was the Best IT Innovation Award (BITA) with prize money of Rs1,000,000.

The award recognises the best indigenous innovations to counter IT related problems.

The recipients of this year’s award were Awais Shafique, M Arslan, Hooria Annum and M Raza Kazmi from a local university.

Pakistan Engineering Council Chairman Dr Javed Salim Qureshi, the chief guest at the event, presented the award. He expressed his hope that the winning innovations would translate into successful products.

Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Dr Sajal K. Das’ speech on the emerging challenges and opportunities for the IT community was among the highlights of the conference.

A series of ‘invited talks’ were organized as part of technical sessions, delivered by world-renowned scholars and researchers.

Besides this, ‘Tutorial sessions’ were also part of FIT-2015, in which various topics of interest to the IT community were discussed.
