Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Hammad’s five-for wraps up win for UBL

Defeat NBP by 67 runs on day three in first round of Super Eight stage

Hammad Azam’s five-wicket haul guided UBL to a 67-run victory over NBP in their first Super Eight fixture in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the UBL ground in Karachi on Wednesday.

UBL resumed their second innings on day three at 60-3 and added 43 runs more before setting a target of 224 for NBP. Umair Khan (30) and Younus Khan (20) were the highest scorers in UBL’s second innings, while Muhammad Asghar took five wickets with Ahmed Jamal and Attaullah picking up two each for NBP.

Chasing 224, NBP were restricted to 156 as Hammad bagged five wickets for 39 runs. Ehsan Adil and Sadaf Mehdi claimed two each for 44 and 50 runs respectively. Kamran Akmal (57) and Akbar Rehman (31) top-scored for their side.

At the National Stadium of Karachi, SNGPL resumed their first innings on 337-7 and were able to add 12 more runs to their total of 349. Naeemuddin (108) remained unbeaten against KRL, who had Sadaf Hussain claim four wickets for them, while Rahat Ali and Muhammad Abbas grabbed three and two respectively.


Trailing by 141 runs, KRL started their second innings and closed play at 202-6 with the help of Usman Arshad’s 85. Ali Nadeem (55) and Zain Abbas (27) were still on the crease with KRL leading by 61 runs. SNGPL’s Asad Ali took five wickets.

Karachi Whites were on 188-3 in their second innings at the end of day three with Muhammad Waqas still at the crease after scoring 103 and Faisal Iqbal (48) supporting him at the other end. Earlier, SSGC were restricted to 311 in their first innings.

Lahore Blues and Wapda played a slow game as the latter resumed their first innings on 17-1 and were able to add 211 to the board to reach 228-7 and trail by 283 runs.
