A three-day anti-polio campaign will start from Monday (today) covering 30 districts of Balochistan.
At least 2.472 million children below the age of five will be administered anti-polio vaccine, said Coordinator of Emergency Operations Centre Dr Saifur Rehman. He said that 55,085 children’s of Afghan refugees will also be vaccinated during the campaign.
Vaccinators in 6,463 mobile teams will go door-to-door to give oral polio vaccine to children in various neighbourhoods across the province. Moreover, inoculation teams will be posted at 782 fixed-site and 311 transit points to perform their duties.
All security arrangements have been concluded, he said reminding that polio vaccinators have been targeted before. Dr Saifur Rehman said there are three high risk districts for anti polio campaigns, including Quetta, Killa Abdullah and Pishin.
A two-year-old girl in Quetta was diagnosed with the crippling disease last week, bringing the total number of cases to seven in Balochistan while 49 in Pakistan 2015.
