SWABI:

Employees of the municipal committee will hold a strike across Swabi district on Monday after one of their colleagues committed suicide in Tank.

The decision was announced at a news conference held on Saturday. The deceased, who has been identified as Muhammad Hashim, committed suicide by consuming poisonous tablets over the non-payment of salaries. Municipal employees have pinned the blame on the provincial government for Hashim’s decision to commit suicide.

During the conference, various representatives of the Local Government Employees Federation K-P said municipal employees have been protesting for several months.  A majority of municipal employees present on the occasion demanded Minister for Local Government Inayatullah Khan and Minister for Finance Muzaffar Said should resign.

The representatives said a case should be registered against members of the K-P Assembly for not taking action against delays in payment of salaries.
