Five 'illegal' Afghan nationals arrested in Peshawar

The operation was jointly conducted by security forces and police in the area

PESHAWAR: At least five illegal Afghan refugees were arrested on Wednesday, following a search and strike operation conducted around Army Public School in Peshawar.

"The five illegal nationals were residing in the area and were arrested along with other suspects, SSP Operation Dr Mian Saeed while talking to The Express Tribune.

The operation was jointly conducted by security forces and police in the area and found that those arrested were illegally residing in the area near APS.

“The operation was one of many being conducted in the area and across the district in connection with the December 16 massacre at the school," he said, adding that "dozens of suspects had been held and were shifted to the local police station where they are being interrogated."

The operation comes as the one year anniversary of the attack on the school approaches. The arrests were made just days after four militants linked with the attack were hanged in Kohat.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan gunmen on December 16, 2014, stormed into Army Public School in Peshawar killing over 140 people, mostly students.
