Rallying support: Tennis star named goodwill ambassador
Fund ecstatic to have Haq onboard
LAHORE:
Tennis star Aisam Ul Haq on Tuesday became a goodwill ambassador of the WWF-P.
The development was revealed at a media talk organised at the fund’s head office in the city. WWF-P director general Hammad Naqi Khan praised Haq for teaming up with the Fund. He also shed light on the similarities between Haq’s and the WWF-P’s struggles. “We are ecstatic to have him onboard. We need support across all levels and what we are trying to advocate needs to be publicised,” he said.
Khan said therefore, the fund needed people like Haq who had a following among the young. He said Haq conveyed a positive image of the nation.
WWF-P president Ahmer Bilal Soofi said the occasion was a proud moment for the Fund. He said the development represented the association of two national assets, the Fund and a tennis player of extraordinary ability.
WWF-P vice-president emeritus Mukhtar Ahmed said the people should not give up hope.
He said life would be rendered meaningless if this ever happened. Ahmed said everyone had been sent down for a particular purpose.
He said every individual had the capability to make a difference. Ahmed felicitated Haq for being named the Fund’s goodwill ambassador.
Haq said that he felt privileged to be named as a goodwill ambassador for the WWF-P. “I have always supported their various initiatives and have always been there for them,” he said.
Haq said he loved Pakistan, its mountains, its lakes and everything about it. He said he was proud to be Pakistani.
Haq said his love for the nation had compelled him to become a goodwill ambassador for the WWF-P. “It is our duty to keep Pakistan clean and do everything it takes to promote a positive image of the nation,” he said.
Haq has been named as a goodwill ambassador by the Fund to rally public support for environment and wildlife conservation.
