‘Deaths In Encounters’: Govt seeks report from Punjab Police
DIGs have been directed to submit complete details including list of charges against the victims
JHELUM:
Punjab Home Department has sought record of all police encounters in 2015. All 10 divisional deputy inspectors general have been directed to submit the record to the Home Department. The step has been taken after the opposition in the Punjab Assembly questioned legality of police encounters and termed many of them fake. Police sources say a total of 460 have so far been killed in “encounters” with police in the province this year. DIGs have been directed to submit complete details including list of charges against the victims.
