PESHAWAR:

Minister for Labour and Mineral Development Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli directed authorities to take immediate steps to restore support to students enrolled in a scholarship scheme. According to a handout issued on Thursday, the minister said it was the responsibility of the Federal Board of Revenue to collect contribution for grants from the relevant industry. Tahirkheli was at a meeting held on the suspension of grants to students in various educational institutes in the province. Tahirkheli was told children of employees of the Telephone Industry of Pakistan were given scholarships based on TIP’s contribution. However, Tahirkheli was also told, TIP could not maintain its contribution, which was why the scholarships were suspended. She said the issue should be taken up with federal authorities as it was an injustice to leave children without financial help for their education mid-academic year. Jadoon expressed his commitment to take the issue up on the floor of the National Assembly.
